A report by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) shows that speculative funds have significantly reduced their net holdings in the soybean futures and options markets. In the week ending December 12, 2017, the speculative fund held a net CBOT 19,755 hands on the Chicago Futures exchange's soybean futures and options, reducing 33,379 hands from 53,134 hands last week. The fund currently holds more than 87,079 hands on soybean futures and options, 104,639 hands last week; The Soybean futures option is 846,620 hands, and last week was 889,756.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported in Friday that private exporters reported selling 257,000 tonnes of soybeans to China in the 2017/18-year period beginning on September 1. Private exporters report 126,000 tonnes of soybeans sold to unknown destinations, delivered in 2017/18.

A Friday report by the MDA Meteorological services company shows that the weather in South America will change significantly from this weekend and will continue into the next week. Rainfall in eastern Argentina and southern Brazil will be higher than normal, contributing to improved soil moisture, the report said.
